Woodpeckers are possibly my favourite species group, they’re just flashy and fun to watch. This past summer I observed a nest building Red-headed Woodpecker like this one, grabbing beakfuls of wood chips/dust from a cavity and tossing them to the air behind. Love how they don’t just toss it, they seem to pause and watch it scatter and fall. Thought it would be a fun effect for a drawing one day🙂
